While I was at the desk writing this morning, something strange outside the window caught my eye. “Are those snowflakes?” I thought. Yes, it was actually snowing out my window! I thought the first few snowflakes would be the end of the story, but for about two hours it got increasingly heavy until the ground was covered. From the inside of the house, with a cup of warm tea and a cat equally interested in the white stuff falling from the sky, it was a beautiful snow. It snowed primarily higher at higher elevations in the mountains, and I am not sure if it even snowed much at all down at sea level in Amalfi or Positano. But Ravello and Scala got some snow for the first time in, I think, about four years. (Correct me if I am wrong, please!) Here is a video of the snow out my window:
I ventured out after the snow stopped to take some photos. (Yes, just an excuse to play in the snow!) Here are some:
The wind is howling now, and what snow melted has turned to ice on the steps and the garden sidewalk. It is going to be a cold, cold night on the Amalfi Coast!

I can’t believe how much snow you got! I gather that you live in the Ravello/Scala area, seems that there is quite a big difference weather-wise between the top of the mountain and the seaside villages. Even when I was there in July it was much cooler in Ravello than down in Amalfi.

Ciao Annika! Yes, it is always cooler in Ravello and Scala than it is in Amalfi and other cities down at the seaside. That can be a nice thing in the heat of the summer! Today it is pretty awful, but I have to admit it was fun to see snow. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

I saw pictures of Villa Rufolo gardens in the Positano News. How strange to see a palm tree dressed in white!
It’s only ever snowed once at our house in Positano but we are very close to the sea.

Ciao Scintilla! I agree, seeing palm trees with snow is indeed a strange thing. I have a funny picture to post today that I think you will enjoy. The neighbor kids made a snowman next to a picturesque clump of palm trees. It’s great! Snow in Positano… I can’t quite wrap my head around that! 🙂
Ciao Chuck! Glad to hear you enjoyed the photos and video. Ravello was beautiful after the snow yesterday!

Ciao Laura,
I loved your video of snow in the south of Italy. We had nearly ten inches here in NY today. I think I’ve had enough and I’m ready for a trip back to Sorrento.
I love your blog for that reason – it keeps me connected.

Ciao Lisa! Glad to hear you enjoy the blog. Wow… ten inches of snow! Reminds me of my Minnesota days. (shiver!) Pack your bags and head to Sorrento! 🙂
