I woke up this morning to find a beautiful and sunny day on the Amalfi Coast. The day seems even brighter with the sun shining on what is left of the snow from yesterday. Enjoying the sun this morning, I noticed that, despite the terrible wind yesterday evening, the neighbor kids had made a charming snowman next door. He is smiling! It reminded me of how exciting snow was when I was little, which, come to think of it, wasn’t all that different from yesterday! (Maybe the four years of Minnesota winters are slowing slipping from my mind?)
Looking in the dictionary just now, I learned that snowman in Italian is pupazzo di neve, or, literally a “puppet of snow.” As I admired this smiling pupazzo di neve this morning, I found myself wondering if snowman in Italy are more traditionally triangular like this guy, or if kids also make the three round snowball type here. Just a silly thought! I like this one, however, and I will be sad when he melts. Right now he has a shady spot, but I am afraid that won’t last long. Perhaps some some sunglasses are in order…
