I love how the springtime is a time of rejuvenation. You see it everywhere on the Amalfi Coast, and not only with the burst of vibrant colors in nature. You can see the rejuvenation this time of year as the shopkeepers and restaurant owners start reopening and preparing their shops for the busy year, as flowers appear lining the streets and piazzas in cities along the Coast, and as the beaches are cleaned up from the winter storms and slowly pushed back into place. A sense of anticipation floats through the air and in and out of conversations, as the people who work in the tourist industry wonder what kind of year it will be.
Just like the shops and restaurants, it seems like the boats shine a little bit brighter this time of year with their new coats of paint in the bright springtime sun. Along the beaches you can sometimes find rocks splashed with drops of paint in colorful hues of blue, green and yellow. In Amalfi, the fishing boats are lined up and ready for another busy year.
These are two of my favorite boats – the Ersilia Madre and the Ersilia. Madre means mother in Italian, and to me they always do look like mother and daughter!
Despite the worries of how the economic downturn will impact tourism here, it will certainly be another beautiful year on the Amalfi Coast!

I love that color so much. I try to insert as many items as possible into my life with those special shades of turquoise and blue. There is a distinct Mediterranean feeling about it that reminds me of the sea and sunlit beaches. Can’t have too much of that in one’s life!

The season is just waiting to begin! We are all wondering what it will be like…much more quiet then last year to be sure but then who knows…who knows…guess we will have to just wait and see!

Ciao Annika! I just love those colors, too! In fact, I think I took that rock splashed with blue paint home with me that day. I just couldn’t part with it!
Ciao Chuck! Those fishing boats really do have so much character. And I love looking at their names!
Ciao Leanne! I think the year will really pick up, especially for the second half. Who knows… but I hope! 🙂
