I have just another tempting tidbit for you, and I will get off my Ravello kick before I have to change the name of this blog to Ciao Ravello instead of Ciao Amalfi. The stunning view down the Amalfi coastline from the Villa Rufolo includes the two towers of the Chiesa della SS. Annunziata in Ravello. This beautiful church was built at the end of the 13th century by a wealthy family in Ravello. The Baroque decorations added in 1721 were stripped away in a restoration completed in 1982-83, and now you can see the medieval simplicity and beauty of the church. Today the Chiesa della SS. Annunziata is no longer used for religious services, but is reserved for conferences and meetings. Last weekend I smiled when I happened to catch one of the first sailboats of the springtime just between the two towers of the church. I wondered what the people on that little boat were thinking as they gazed up at the city of Ravello perched high on the clifftops.
